The Thangadh municipality agreed to construct a memorial in the remembrance of three dalit youths who had been killed in a police firing in September last year. The move came after one of the victims father threatened to kill self early on Saturday.
Following the threat,11 members of the committee Dalit Hatyakand Sangharsh Samiti also resigned as demanded by the victims father Valji Rathod. He climbed a water tank, about 150-foot-tall,on Thangadh highway and threatened to jump off if his demands were not met, police said.
After four hours of negotiation with police and district officials,he came down from the tank. Thangadh police Sub-Inspector K A Gadhvi said Rathod also wanted the committee to hand over Rs 11 lakh which the dalit community donated to fight the case. Rathod was arrested and letter released on bail. ENS
