Man held six months after ‘rape-murder’

The local crime branch officials Friday arrested a man,who was on the run for about six months,for allegedly raping and killing a nine-year-old girl.

The local crime branch officials Friday arrested a man,who was on the run for about six months,for allegedly raping and killing a nine-year-old girl.

The girl,who was a resident of Ekta Nagar colony of Kishanwadi area of the city,was raped and murdered on October 24 last year by Rashid Sheikh,who lived in the same area,police said.

“Sheikh has confessed to his crime. He went missing after the victim’s body was found near Ekta Nagar area,” city Police Commissioner Satish Sharma said. According to police,Sheikh had escaped to Ajmer and then to other places in Uttar Pradesh. When a team under DCP Subhash Trivedi received a tip-off that Sheikh was visiting Buland Shahid Bawa dargah in city’s Dumad Chokri area,they laid a trap and caught him.

Gang looting cotton ginning firms in Vadodara busted,11 arrested

The local crime branch officials Thursday night arrested 11 members of a gang allegedly involved in looting of cotton ginning factories in different areas of Vadodara. They were picked up near Sagar Ginning Factory,where a team of police officials found them in suspicious circumstances. Vadodara rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh said the members of the gang belonged to neighbouring Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh. A country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered,along with 11 mobile phones and hockey sticks from them. The gang members confessed to having committed seven such loot in cotton ginning mills,police said.
