Let liquor flow freely to lure foreign tourists: Tour operators

Travel operators are in the process of drawing up a draft of recommendations that they will share with the Tourism Minister next week.

The Gujarat government’s various initiatives to boost tourism has now caught the attention of inbound tour operators who are now busy drawing up a draft of recommendations to help increase footfalls of foreign nationals this year.

One of the proposals includes making the process of getting liquor permits and liquor quicker and faster and more convenient for foreign and upstate tourists.

“The Gujarat Tourism could institute permit rooms at its offices and hotels to boost tourism. This is a major hurdle in hosting foreign nationals and we have shared the same with the minister,” said Bhavesh Saraiyya from the Garha Tours & Travels.

After a closed-door meet last week with the Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel and Sanjay Kaul Commissioner,Tourism Corporation of Gujarat (TCGL),the representatives from Gujarat Inbound Tour Operators Association (GITA) that caters exclusively to foreign clientele visiting the state has shared some inputs it will include in the draft with The Indian Express.

The operators have demanded friendly policies from Gujarat Tourism at festivals, like meeting the shortages of tour guides, making rooms available at major tourist destinations and the improvement of roads and other forms of transport.

“While the ‘Khushboo Gujarat Ki’ campaign has definitely worked for Indian tourists,it has not attracted foreign nationals. We are in the process of preparing a draft to frame our suggestions and will share them with the Tourism Minister next week,” said Ajay Goyal, who runs Raag’s Tours & Travels.
