Calm returned to Kalsar village in Thasra taluka of Kheda district on Thursday. The village had witnessed tension, following the drowning of a 16- year-old Hindu girl in the Mahisagar canal while on an “outing” with her 19-year-old Muslim friend Tuesday evening. A local court in Kheda remanded the accused to four days in police custody, a day after he was arrested, based on a complaint of the girl’s father.
On Thursday, police said it was probing the allegations of the girl’s family that the boy lured the girl to accompany him to the canal and pushed her into the canal. Superintendent of Police Maninder Partap Singh Pawar said, “We are probing the case and ascertaining the claims of the FIR. The boy has denied pushing her into the canal although her uncle has claimed to be an eyewitness.” ens
