The Vadodara city police on Thursday arrested a member of the notorious Kasamala gang and seized a drug, mephedrone, from his possession.
Shaheed Zakir Shaikh, who was recently released on bail, was nabbed from the Hazrat Tekra area of the city. Shaikh was among the nine members arrested under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organized Crime Act (GUJCTOC) when the gang was booked in January.
The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), Vadodara city, raided Shaikh’s house after a tip-off about the stash of narcotics. A statement issued by the DCB said that during his questioning, Shaikh had confessed that he bought the drugs from a Surat-based person, Sajid Patel, and was reselling them to customers in Vadodara in smaller packets.
