A teenage boy lodged in a observation home for boys in Rajkot was allegedly sodomised and beaten up by four fellow inmates on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The incident came to light after another teenager, who was also assaulted by his fellow-inmates, managed to run away from the center on Wednesday night and complain to his parents at his home in Jamnagar.
The victim’s mother travelled to Rajkot on Thursday evening and lodged a complaint with A Division police. In her complaint, she named four inmates and a peon of the observation home. Two of the accused were earlier arrested by city police for allegedly stabbing a constable to death last month. Police said that the two Jamnagar boys were brought to the center in Rajkot on Wednesday after they were caught for alleged theft. Police also said that the juvenile offenders also beat up three other teens.
Later in the day, police arrested peon Kadar and also detained the security guard who was on duty when the alleged crime was committed. Confirming the incident, Social defence officer of Rajkot, Kanaksinh Zala said: “After the complaint, police have conducted inquiry and registered a case. The teenager victims have gone through medical check-up.”
A Division police inspector Keval Dave said that they had secured the permission of juvenile justice board to proceed with the investigation.
“The court has granted us permission to investigate the matter and arrest the four juveniles. Medical report of the victim who is believed to have been sexually assaulted is also awaited,” said Raval.
Police said that the peon beat up the boy who was sexually assaulted when he complained to him about that the incident.
