The AAP taluka panchayat member has been identified as Nirmalsinh Chavda.
On Tuesday, the Gujarat BJP released a video of Chavda on a social media platform in which he says that he got elected to Junagadh taluka panchayat from Bilkha-2 seat in 2021. Chavda also said that he has joined BJP since “no developmental works are being carried out while staying in AAP”.
For the Visavadar by-election, Chavda also expressed support to BJP candidate Kirit Patel. Meanwhile, AAP in-charge of Saurashtra Zone, Raju Borkhatariya, confirmed Chavda’s resignation from AAP. Borkhatraiya said, “First, we will talk to him (Chavda) in person about what kind of pressure the BJP has applied on him. He had earlier told me that he was facing a lot of pressure.”
“Ours is a path of struggle. BJP is employing every possible way to break people and to specially damage the AAP,” he added.
The voting for the bypolls of Kadi and Visavadar constituencies are scheduled on June 19. AAP has fielded its top leader in Gujarat, Gopal Italia, from Visavadar while BJP has nominated its former Junagadh district president Kirit Patel from the seat. The seat fell vacant after sitting AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and later joined BJP.
