A man was injured after being attacked by a lion in Junagadh district,which houses Gir sanctuary,Gujarat Forest Department sources said Wednesday.
The incident took place near Tariya village in Megharda taluka of the district. The victim,Jagdish M Tariya,was grazing his cattle when a lion pounced on him. The wild animal tried to drag him inside the forest when a labourer,working in a nearby field,saw Tariya screaming for help.
The labourer raised an alarm and some villagers rushed to the spot. Seeing the crowd,the lion left Tariya and disappeared into the jungles,they said,quoting eyewitnesses.
Tariya,who received severe injuries on his leg and stomach,was admitted to a hospital in Junagadh,the sources added.
