Ashish Khaitan,the journalist from a private news channel who had carried out a sting operation on a number of persons associated with Hindu outfits and accused in the 2002 riots,today testified before the special trial court for the Naroda Patiya massacre case.
He produced the full transcripts of the sting operation before the court through the prosecution. His deposition is still on and is expected to continue on Saturday.
In the sting operation that was broadcast in 2007,a number of persons were seen making claims about their role in the riots. Three of them,Babu Patel alias Babu Bajrangi,Suresh Chhara alias Suresh Richard and Prakash Rathod,are accused in the Naroda Patiya case.
Khaitan has appeared as a prosecution witness and his deposition was recorded before the court of special trial judge Jyotsana Yagnik.
Assistant public prosecutor Gaurang Vyas said that Khaitan,during his deposition,explained the circumstances under which he decided to do the sting operation. He produced the full transcripts of his conversations with some of the controversial figures like former BJP MLA from Godhra Haresh Bhatt,VHP leader Jaydeep Patel and Babu Bajrangi. These transcripts have been taken on record as evidence by the court.
