Police today arrested two more persons in connection with the Rs 20-lakh jewellery loot case of Ahmedabad. While the main accused,Jaydeepsinh Zala, was caught on Wednesday, his associates Snehal Shah and Yogesh Chauhan were arrested from Hajipur village in Varnama taluka.

The arrests were made following a tip-off from one of Zala’s relatives in Hajipur, where the accused had been staying after committing the crime on February 27.

The police said Zala had robbed his jeweler friend Himanshu Soni,a resident of Ambawadi in Ahmedabad, after telling him that his politician and bureaucrat friends wanted to buy some jewellery. When Soni went to show samples, the trio reportedly attacked him with a knife and looted 400 grams of gold.

They later sold the jewellery and visited various tourist places across the country, the Ahmedabad police said. “When they went to Hajipur,Zala’s relatives informed the police after a clash between Shah and Chauhan over the money. Zala told us that he received only Rs 1 lakh while the rest of the money was with Shah and Chauhan,” said a police official, adding that they have recovered the Toyota Innova used by the accused.

Chauhan was wanted by the police in Ahmedabad after he jumped parole in 1999.

He was lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail in connection with a murder case, the police said.
