Days after a few men stormed a police outpost and tried to assault a jeweller, Rajkot SP on Sunday suspended a police inspector and three constables for negligence and “watering down” charges against the accused.

SP Gagandeep Gambhir suspended Jasdan police inspector Balvantsinh Dangi, head constables Punabhai Jada and Narendrasinh Jadeja, and constable Dhuda Sakariya after specific complaints. “In one specific case, grievances of an applicant were not redressed… The accused tried to assault the man. This happened at Atkot outpost and cannot be tolerated,” the SP said.

According to sources, on August 4, a group led by Dipu Gida, a resident of Jasdan, intercepted Kalpesh Vaghasiya’s car. They allegedly smashed the car’s windscreen and tried to assault Vaghasiya, but he managed to reach Atkot outpost of Jasdan police. However, the group stormed the outpost and created a ruckus, the sources said.

After the incident, police allegedly did not write complaint as narrated by Vaghasiya, who two months ago had claimed death threats. Vaghasiya said his brother Ghanshyam has been missing for two months and that he had lodged a police complaint. Similarly, a girl from Jasdan was also reported to be missing, he said, adding, the accused suspected that Ghanshyam eloped with the girl.
