A probationary IPS officer posted as assistant superintendent of police at Valsad has filed a complaint of dowry harassment against her husband who is serving as deputy collector of Behror town in Alwar district of Rajasthan.
According to police,Sarojini Kumari,a 2011-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre,got married to Narsingh Hajarilal,a Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer,in June 2011. Once she got posted in Gujarat a few months ago,her husband allegedly started calling her with demands of dowry and used abusive language to threaten her. He also wanted her to quit job.
Finally,Sarojini Kumar lodged a police complaint against her husband at the Valsad town police station on Saturday.
Ours was love marriage. Even before our marriage,we had conflicts on various issues. But since we were in love,I tried my best to forgive and forget his misbehaviour. After marriage,he continued misbehaving with me and my family members. He also used to assault me and did not want me to serve in Gujarat. On March 13,he called me late in night and used abusive language,threatening to kill me and my family, Kumari told The Indian Express.
Police said that as an evidence,Kumari had recorded threatening calls made by her husband and provided it to them.
Valsad district superintendent of police Nipuna Torwane said,We have registered a case of mental and physical harassment against Narsingh. He had also threatened to kill her. We are at present collecting evidence against him. We will also record the statements of his parents and family members after which we will arrest him.
