Not taking any chance about the safety of visitors, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has opted for insurance cover for those who attend the Kankaria Carnival. The civic body has made an insurance arrangement against any terrorist attack or other accident causing loss of life and injuries during the festival.
The insurance cover for individuals is for those who are present within one kilometre of the site.
The cover is for 20 lakh people visiting the place and the liability is fixed up to Rs 2 crore. Individuals have been covered for Rs 50,000 each, said Deputy Municipal Commissioner Dilip Mahajan here on Monday.
He said the AMC has paid Rs 10.36 lakh towards premium to the insurance company to cover the event.
Meanwhile,Aero Club of India has sent parachutists, who have been performing here for the last two days. They will also exhibit their art on December 31.
Wing Commander (retired) Sanjay Thapar,director-general of the Aero Club told mediapersons here that the cost of organising the event, around Rs 250 lakh, would be borne by the AMC.
Lauding the Ahmedabad fire brigades rescue and safety team as the best in the country,Thapar said this was his second visit to the carnival site and third visit to Gujarat for para jumping and parasailing demonstrations.
He said the Indian Parachuting Federation,of which he is president, trains civilians in para jumping at Deesa airfield in collaboration with Dantiwada Agricultural University.
Currently it is a costly affair and the Federation has sent a request to the sports ministry to consider subsidy on training.
