A midday meal in-charge of a government primary school in Anand district was suspended Friday following complaints from students that there were “small insects” in the “mixed khichdi” served to them.
The complaint came from Adarsh Prathmik Shala of Dedarma village in Anand’s Borsad taluka, officials said. The action was taken after a protest by the villagers.
According to Deputy Collector (midday meal) Bhavnaben Barad, students on Wednesday complained about dead insects in the khichdi and returned home without eating the lunch.
“In view of the protest by parents, we have decided to suspend Varshaben Rana, in-charge of midday meal in the school. Samples of the khichdi were collected and sent to the Food & Drugs Department in Vadodara for further examination. We are waiting for the results,” said Barad.
“The villagers claimed that there were small insects in the khichdi which was not immediately visible. We can’t say anything till we get the report (from the Food & Drugs Department). The result is likely to be delivered in another two weeks,” the Deputy Collector said.
This is the third instance that complaint of substandard midday meal has been made to the district administration.
Barad said that schools have been instructed to check the quality grain being delivered to them from godowns.
