A jumbo-sized Ahmedabad City Congress Committee (ACCC) has been formed, apparently with a view to keep various factions in good humour in the election year.
ACCC president Pankaj Shah told The Indian Express that since the city had expanded and the population had also increased,it was necessary to revamp the unit to accommodate more office-bearers.
However,he admitted that at times, such actions were taken to please various groups, particularly old leaders and former councillors. Giving them positions was also necessary to ensure their active involvement in party matters specially when the state Assembly elections were just a few months away,he said.
Though the ACCC has only one treasurer, the city committee revamped on Sunday has appointed 27 vice-presidents,53 general secretaries and 69 secretaries.
Shah said that of them,33 held B Com degrees,24 had BA degrees, one was MBA,besides two practicing medicos, three engineers and five advocates in the new ACCC.
