In 2 years,over 700 Gujarat cops caught for committing crime

Despite the state government's claims of maintaining good law and order situation in the state,704 police personnel have been caught for various crimes in the state in last two years.

Moreover,these officers found guilty are of only lower rank and there is no record of criminal action against police officers above the rank of sub-inspector. In last two years,many senior police officials up to the IPS level have also been found to be involved in various crimes.

In response to an unstarred question asked by Congress MLA Raghavji Patel,Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a written reply informed the state Assembly that in the last two years(till June 2010) total 15 PSIs,221 ASIs and Head Constables and 468 Police Constables have been caught for various crimes and booked under CRPC,IPC and Prohibition Act. CM informed that chargesheets have been filed against these police officers in various courts.

As per the data disclosed by the CM,the maximum number of police personnel (52) have been caught in Junagadh district. Besides,51 guilty police officers have been caught from Ahmedabad,32 from Rajkot city,26 from Vadodara City,26 from Kheda,26 from Gandhinagar and 25 from Vadodara Rural.
