Heavy rains lashed Surat, south Gujarat and a few coastal districts in the last twenty four hours, with Gandevi taluka of Navsari district having received the highest rainfall of 9 inch. Surat city received the season’s first rainfall on Tuesday night. The rainfall continued till midnight. It again started early on Wednesday and lasted for a couple of hours. According to the weather department, the rainfall measured in the last 24 hours in Surat city was 36 mm. The weather department forecast heavy downpour in the next 24 hours in south Gujarat.
Meanwhile, showers covered most of Saurashtra on Wednesday, even as heavy rains lashed coastal districts.
Of the 12 districts in the Suarashtra region, 10 recorded rainfall. It didn’t rain in Surendranagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka districts till late evening. Coastal Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Amreli districts were lashed by heavy rains.
