Severe heatwave conditions prevailed in Kutch, Banaskantha, Surat, Rajkot and Surendranagar on Monday, with Kandla Airport recording the highest maximum temperature at 45.3 degree Celsius.
‘Severe heatwave’ to ‘heatwave’ conditions are expected to prevail in the state till Thursday.
As per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) forecast for Tuesday, “Heat wave to Severe Heat wave conditions very likely to prevail at many pockets in Kutch district. Heat wave conditions (Orange alert) very likely to prevail in the district of North Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan and Mehsana, in the districts of Saurashtra namely Rajkot , Morbi and Surendranagar.” Also, a yellow alert has been issued in Surat, Bhavnagar and Botad.
“Warm night conditions very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Bhavnagar and in Kutch,” the IMD stated.
For Wednesday, the weather department has predicted heatwave conditions for Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan, Mehsana, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Morbi, and others.
It said that heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha on Thursday, .
“No large change in maximum temperatures during next 3 days, thereafter, fall by 2-4 degrees very likely over the region. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be in the range of 41-45 degree Celsius over parts of Saurashtra-Kutch,” the weather department stated.
On Monday, Rajkot recorded 44.2 degrees, Surendranagar recorded 44 degrees, followed by Amreli at 43.8, Deesa 43.2, Bhuj, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar at 42.9, Keshod 41.8, Vadodara 41.6, Surat 40.4, Bhavnagar 40.7 degree Celsius.
For Ahmedabad, the maximum temperature is likely to touch 43 degree celsius on Tuesday.
