Gutkha haul at Surat rly station,man held

Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel have seized gutkha pouches worth Rs one lakh from the parcel office at the railway station and detained a man who was allegedly smuggling it to Maharashtra,a state where the chewing tobacco is banned.

Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel have seized gutkha pouches worth Rs one lakh from the parcel office at the railway station and detained a man who was allegedly smuggling it to Maharashtra,a state where the chewing tobacco is banned. Gujarat too has banned gutkha from September 11.

The arrested man,Ramesh Sharad,is a resident of Bhusawal in Maharashtra. Surat RPF police inspector Gracious Fernandes said the gutkha pouches were stuffed under packets of snacks marked for delivery in Bhusawal.
