Gujarat: Wife missing, man razes parts of house belonging to her suspected lover; arrested
Anklav police are looking for Phulmali and the woman who remain untraceable

Upset with his wife allegedly eloping with another person, a man in Bharuch recently got extended structures outside six houses in the latter’s village demolished with the help of a bulldozer, police said.
The accused, along with the driver and owner of the excavator besides three others, has been arrested.
As per details received from Jambusar police, Mahesh Phulmali, a resident of Kareli village, was allegedly involved with the wife of one of the accused persons. A few days ago, the woman left her marital home and went to her parents’ house in Anand.
However, the woman went missing from there on March 21 following which her father lodged a missing complaint with Anklav police station. Police reached out to the woman’s husband who told them about her alleged affair with Phulmali. The police then reached Phulmali’s house and learnt that he, too, has been missing for the last few days.
On the night of March 21, the missing woman’s husband, accompanied by five others, reached the house of Phulmali with the bulldozer and demolished the extended portion of the house. They also razed extended portions, containing toilet blocks and open spaces, of five neighbouring houses which belonged to Phulmali’s relatives.
Phulmali’s mother filed a complaint in the matter on March 23.
The six accused were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s (BNS) Sections 324(5) (Act causing damage to property with the intent to cause wrongful loss), 189(2) (Unlawful assembly), 191(2) (rioting), 190 (addresses constructive liability in unlawful assemblies), 115 (1) (Act done with intention to causing hurt to any person), 52 (Abettor when liable to cumulative punishment for act abetted and for act done), and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation).

Speaking to The Indian Express, Vedach police inspector D M Chaudhary said, “The accused had no right to demolish the houses. He wanted to build pressure on Phulmali’s kin so that they share his whereabouts.”
Meanwhile, Anklav police are looking for Phulmali and the woman who remain untraceable.
