The Gujarat University has resolved to go for centralised online admissions in all its courses, barring BA and MA, from the current academic session.
So far, centralised online admission was there only for commerce, BSc, BBA, BCA, MSc (IT) and MBA (Integrated) courses.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Vice-Chancellor MN Patel said that even for BA and MA courses, the students would have to register themselves online on admission website of the university this year as well. But centralised admissions in these courses would take place from the next year only.
“But online centralised admissions will be done for all other courses,” said the VC.
He said the the decision for centralised online admission was taken keeping in view the problems faced by the students under the old system under which the students had to apply to individual colleges and institutes. The students had to apply to several institutes to secure admission.
“Now, they just have to apply online and under centralised admission system, students would be allotted a seat in a college depending on their merit and preference for the institute,” said Patel. Admission in-charge H C Sardar said: “The students having internet at home can apply from their home itself. It will save their time.”
There are a total of 200 colleges affiliated with the university and with about four lakh students on their rolls.
