In the monsoon of 2024-25, Gujarat government has provided financial assistance of Rs 1,162 crore to around 7.95 lakh farmers for crop losses they suffered in natural calamities like flood and lightning, Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai informed the Gujarat Assembly during the discussion on supplementary budgetary demands of various departments, on Monday.

One of the demands was that of the Revenue Department worth Rs 1,249 crore for relief related to natural calamities.

The minister said that the state government is committed to providing assistance to the citizens affected by natural calamities like flood, drought, cyclone, lightning strike, etc.

Among the reliefs provided by the state government, Desai also cited two packages, which were announced in July and August-September.

Desai said, “During the monsoon of 2024, for crop losses sustained by natural calamities, in the current year of 2024-25, 7,95,114 farmers of 27 affected districts were provided assistance worth Rs 1,162 crore as per the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.” All the supplementary budgetary demands were passed in the Assembly by a majority vote.
