Three people have died after allegedly consuming a drink, suspected to be poisonous, in Kheda district’s Nadiad town, said police on Monday, adding a probe has been launched into the matter. The incident took place Sunday night in Jawaharnagar area of the town.

On Monday evening, the primary cause of death — reported after the panel postmortem examination — of the three men was stated to be “cardiac arrest”, even as the Kheda Superintendent of Police Rajesh Gadhiya handed over the investigation to the Local Crime Branch.

Police said that a case of unnatural death has been lodged at the Nadiad town police station as the investigators await the detailed forensic report to establish the nature of the toxic chemical that could have led to the deaths.
