2 kg of MD in Surat, 427 kg of suspected drug in Gujarat’s Bharuch seized
Police said that the samples of the suspected contraband have been sent to a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for confirmation.

(Express File Photo) More than two kilograms of banned mephedrone worth Rs 2.03 crore was seized by the Surat city Crime Branch from three accused in Velanja area of Surat district on Sunday evening, said officials, adding that an additional 427 kg of a suspected drug was seized from a factory in Ankleshwar in Bharuch district in a joint operation with the Bharuch district Special Operations Group (SOG).
Three men, identified as Montu Patel, Virat Patel and Vipul Patel were arrested for transporting 2.031 kilograms of mephedrone in an SUV, said the Surat Crime Branch. The vehicle has also been seized.
Surat Commissioner of Police Anupamsinh Gahlaut said that another team of the Crime Branch, along with the Bharuch SOG, carried out a joint raid at Avasar Enterprise in Ankleshwar GIDC, on Sunday night and seized 141 grams of MD drugs and a suspected contraband of 427 kilograms from the possession of accused Vishal Patel, who has been arrested in a separate case.
Police said that the samples of the suspected contraband have been sent to a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for confirmation.
The arrest of four people in two cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act comes a week after the Delhi Police and Gujarat Police, in a joint operation, had seized 500 kg of cocaine worth Rs 5,000 crore from Avkar Drug Factory in Ankleshwar and arrested five persons.
A release from the Surat Crime Branch on Monday said, “On Sunday, based on an input that a man named Vishal Patel was manufacturing MD drugs at a factory, Avsar Enterprise, in Ankleshwar and three persons were to deliver a consignment to him passing by Velanja, a watch was laid and the accused nabbed… In a simultaneous operation, Bharuch SOG and another team of the Surat Crime Branch also nabbed Vishal Patel with 141 gram MD and 427 kg suspected drug from a factory at Ankleshwar,” it said.
