The DETECTION of Crime Branch of Rajkot city police arrested history-sheeter Mahesh Gamara, along with his four accomplices, from Mehsana on Monday. Meanwhile, alleged land-shark Baldev Dangar alias Bali and his three accomplices were sent to judicial custody by a local court.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Crime Branch maintained a watch and picked up Mahesh and four others while they happened to cross the toll gate in a black Scorpio car which did not have vehicle registration number plate. They were brought to the city and formally arrested later in the evening, police said.
Watch what else is making news:
Besides Mahesh, his accomplices — Bharat Gamara, Kana Gamara and Ajay Gamara — were picked up from Mehsana. His another accomplice, Khodu Mundhva, was picked from Aryanagar Main Road in the city and arrested formally. Mahesh, who is facing 28 cases of attempt to murder, extortion, rioting and under Arms Act, is a resident of Shree Ram Park near Aji Dam. Bharat is also a resident of Rajkot while Kana and Ajay are native of Surendranagar district.
Crime Branch police inspector Hitesh Gadhvi said that Mahesh and his gang members had opened fire on one Vijay Makwana in Shashtrinagar area of Rajkot city on November 22 and tried to kill him. They had also threatened Makwana’s elder brother in Kuvadva. Gandhigram police station had booked Mahesh and others for attempt to murder and rioting. However, the accused had remained on the run since then.
Meanwhile, Crime Branch produced Bali and his three accomplices — Arjun Dangar, Arjun Jalu and Sikundar Bloch — in court as their seven-day police custody ended on Monday. The Crime Branch sought extension of their remand, but the court rejected the plea and instead sent them to judicial custody. Mahesh and Bali are considered to be arch rivals.
