The Gujarat HC on Wednesday issued notices to the Central Board of Film Certification, the Centre, the state government and a private firm on a public interest litigation claiming that a song in the movie Santa Banta Private Limited will have adverse impact on children.
The song “Machli jal ki rani hai, raati daaru ke sang khani hai (fish is the queen of water, to be eaten with liquor in the night)” has been picked from popular rhyme “Machli jal ki raani hai, jeevan uska paani hai ”.
According to petitioner Anil R Dubey, 37, a resident of Naroda in Ahmedabad, the song in the name of “creative liberty played mischief with a rhyme which the children have been learning since last more than 50-60 years”. The plea said that “the song is highly objectionable as it directly sends a message to the children of tender age that it is fine to consume fish and that too with liquor”.
