About 50 engineering faculty members from Government Engineering colleges across Gujarat, visited the incubation centre at MICA to understand its incubation process on campus and its various initiatives where student start-ups have benefitted significantly.
Taking note of the growing industrial demand for innovation and creative potential amongst Engineering students, the State Project Facilitation Unit, of the Commissionerate of Technical Education of Govt. of Gujarat had initiated this educational tour, so as to help the engineering faculty members of the state get started on the vision for innovation and design-thinking to be a part of the curriculum, as also address issues related to innovation in product and its processes to transform the same into an entrepreneurial model.
As a part of this educational tour, U T Rao, Faculty member and Chairperson of the MICA Incubator, explained the entrepreneurship and incubation process and how academic institutions can run different programs, covering the value chain of the innovation and its incubation centre, so as to foster innovation and entrepreneurship at their respective colleges.
U.T. Rao says, “Technology led entrepreneurship is an important path for attaining greater economic development for an emerging economy like India. In this endeavour interaction between academic institutions, the industry and the government, is a key factor.”
Established in 1991, MICA is the first residential institute for training leadership in strategic marketing and communication and ‘MICA Incubator’ is an incubation centre supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, specifically designed to support this sector and to commercialise and nurture ideas and innovations.
