(Representational Photo)A diamond polisher in Surat was attacked with tools used in diamond cutting and polishing, allegedly by the firm owner and seven others after they suspected him of theft, resulting in his death earlier this week, police said.
On Friday, police arrested five accused, including the firm owner, and booked them under murder charges, while three others are absconding. As per details from Kapodra police, Laljibhai Bhambhaniya (35) had been working as a diamond polisher in a small diamond unit in Kapodra area for the last six months.
A few days ago, owner Vaghela noticed that cash amounting to Rs 20,000 and polished diamonds worth Rs 35,000 had gone missing , said officers.
On Wednesday, Vaghela confronted Bhambhaniya. After a heated exchange, Vaghela, accompanied by his son Vishal, took the victim to their factory where they and six others, hit the victim and locked him up inside factory, police said. Following a tip-off, Kapodra police inspector M B Asura along with other personnel reached the factory, found the body of the diamond polisher, and questioned Vaghela and his son, after which they were taken into custody.
A cousin of the deceased lodged a police complaint . Police have registered offences under BNS sections pertaining to murder, wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly, and rioting.
Inspector Asura said, “We have arrested five accused while three others will be arrested soon.”
