Porbandar City Congress Committee president Parimal J Thakkar was allegedly abducted and beaten up by five to six persons in the wee hours of Tuesday. Thakkar, who has been admitted to Jamnagar Civil Hospital with severe injuries to his eyes and head, filed a complaint with the Porbandar police, alleging that two of the six alleged kidnappers were BJP workers, and identified them as Bantu and Rajabhai.
Speaking to The Indian Express from Jamnagar, Thakkar said: “Around 1.30 am when I returned home and had just parked my car, five to six persons came in two Scorpio vehicles and caught me waving knives. Then they pushed me into one of the vehicles and drove away.”
Thakkar, who was appointed Porbandar City Congress Committee chief three months ago, said that he was taken to some place in the city and was beaten. “They beat me black and blue, on my head, face and eyes. They did not give any reason as to why they were doing that to me. I only heard them say, “Tu itna akad kyun raha hai? (Why are you being so arrogant?). I did not hear anything else because I was being assaulted and could not hear them properly,” Thakkar added.
According to the Congress leader, he was put in a vehicle and dropped outside his house in Ram Tekri area of the city. When asked if he had any enmity, the Congress leader said, “I have no personal enmity with anybody. I am in real estate business but I don’t have any enemies.”
Based on his complaint, police have registered an FIR and launched a search for the accused persons. “Thakkar had an altercation with Nayan Gorania and Haja Odedara near Natraj Hotel in the city. After that six persons, including Gorania and Odedara, followed Thakkar to his house, and forcibly took him away. They slapped him and then dropped him back at his residence,” Porbandar SP Parthrajsinh Gohil said. The FIR has been filed against six — Gorania and Odedara, and four unidentified others.
