Gujarat Confidential: Silence on Vasava?

Announcement or no announcement, amid speculations, the only thing that is confirmed so far is Vasava's presence in the House

Chaitar VasavaThe Speaker may not make a formal announcement about Vasava's imprisonment in the House that is otherwise mandatory as per the rules of the Assembly

After AAP Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava — who has been lodged at Vadodara Central Jail since July this year after a case was lodged against him for alleged attempt to murder by Dediapada BJP chief Sanjay Vasava — was granted interim bail to participate in the three-day Monsoon Session of the Gujarat Assembly between September 8 and 10, people have started discussing its possible impact. People believe since he will be out of jail during the session, the Speaker may not make a formal announcement about Vasava’s imprisonment in the House that is otherwise mandatory as per the rules of the Assembly. They think this may deprive the Opposition of the chance to attack the ruling party in the House over the issue. Announcement or no announcement, amid speculations, the only thing that is confirmed so far is Vasava’s presence in the House.

MSU V-C takes charge

The MS University of Baroda finally saw its new Vice-Chancellor, eminent chemistry professor Bhalchandra M Bhanage, taking charge on Tuesday. He was welcomed by in-charge V-C Professor Dhanesh Patel and other university officials. Bhanage, in his statement after taking the V-C’s chair, said that he would strive to make the university an ace institution in research work. “I am basically a researcher and I will work towards improving research work at MSU… so that the professors at MSU find solutions to problems of the society… There should be a collaboration between the university and the industry to resolve problems. It will lead to employment generation. We will increase interaction with industries. I will also make sure that more patents come out of this university.” Bhanage takes over as the V-C following a massive controversy over the eligibility of his predecessor V K Shrivastava, who resigned in January this year following a litigation in the Gujarat High Court.
