(Express Photo) Govind Prasad Saini, additional divisional railway manager of Rajkot division of the Western Railway, was asked to propose a vote of thanks at the end of Rojgar Mela, a job fair organised by the Central government at the Rajkot divisional headquarters in the city Thursday. But rather than the customary formality, Saini virtually delivered a short speech in which he pointed out that usually, the successful candidate in a recruitment examination and his/her family celebrate when an appointment letter is handed over, but at Rojgar Melas, the entire country celebrates the distribution of such letters being handed over digitally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Negligence & Consequences
Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, an advocate of organic farming, while enlisting its benefits, said it was due to the “practices of negligence” that the human race has been battling lifestyle diseases.
Addressing a seminar on organic farming in the Chhota Udepur district earlier this week, Devvrat said diseases such as cancer, heart attack and diabetes have emerged due to the kind of food being consumed these days.
“Earlier, the produce from farms was organic and free of chemicals… A very senior agricultural expert from Niti Aayog, Neelam Patel, told me that it is due to the pesticides and other chemicals used during farming that people are suffering from cancer… It is because farmers are poisoning our food and feeding us these chemicals,” he said. The gathering was attended by the District Collector, officials of the administration, elected representatives, and a large number of farmers from the district.
