Ahmedabad mayor Meenaxi Patel will take off for her maiden foreign visit from June 19 to 21 for the United Nations Centre for Regional Development meet in Berlin. Her presentation will be part of “Berlin high-level dialogue on implementing Rio+20 decisions on sustainable cities and transport”. Considering the mayor is relatively new to the subject, senior officials of municipal transport service and CEPT experts have busied themselves with training sessions. While the civic body said the trip bill would be footed by the organisers, the corporation will foot the bill for “concomitant” expenses, which interestingly has not been defined, and could cross the main expense of Rs 2 lakh.

JD(U) man waits to tune in to Bihar’s signal

The Janata Dal (United) may have parted ways with the BJP in Bihar at the national level. However, the equation is going to be different between the lone JD(U) MLA from Jhagadia,Chotu Vasava, and the BJP. The two have shared a love-hate relationship for long and given Vasava’s electoral popularity, neither the Congress nor the BJP can afford to displease him. Now,whether Vasava sits with BJP or looks to Bihar for directions should be clear soon.

Outgoing mayor now awaits a bigger role

Janak Kotak, the outgoing mayor of Rajkot, was a relaxed man on the penultimate day of his two-and-a-half-year-long tenure on Thursday. “My tenure has been very satisfying. It was during my reign that the city got flyovers on Kalavad road and Gondal Road. Facilities at four crematoriums in the city were upgraded,” the 66-year-old BJP leader said. Known for his down-to-earth image,he served his eighth term as a corporator of Rajkot Municipal Corporation. “It is satisfying that I have been able to serve people of my city. Now I shall not contest civic body polls and accept another responsibility given by the BJP,” he added.
