Gujarat Lok Samiti chief and well-known Gandhian,Chunibhai Vaidya, also decided to jump into the bandwagon on the Statue of Unity which foundation was laid on October 31 at Kevadia. In a statement,he said that this project was more of a clever ploy by Chief Minister Narendra Modi to cash in on the image of the great leader than a show of devotion to him. According to him,The Statue of Unity project is being carried out with a view to belittling Pandit Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi vis a vis Sardar Patel. Vaidya said that Modi may be saying good things about Sardar, but the institution (RSS) of which he is a product, thinks diametrically opposite and creates confusion about Sardar. Similar confusion is being spread about Swami Vivekanand,Subhaschandra Bose,Bhagat Singh,Chandrashekhar Azad,Rajguru,Sukhdev and others that they all were Hindu extremists while the fact is none of them was a Hindu extremist, Vaidya said, adding that there was nothing to suggest that the Hindutva leaders participated in freedom movement.
Higher charge for lawyers <\b>
Even as the cost of living is rising with ever-increasing prices of commodities, the price to be a lawyer and practice law has also increased in Gujarat and that too by 1,000 %. Recently, the Bar Council of Gujarat decided to increase the enrolment fee for the lawyers under the provisions of Advocates Act from Rs 600 to Rs 6,000. The BCG officials said that the fee had not been increased for quite some time and looking at present circumstances it was unanimously decided in a General Meeting of BCG to increase the enrolment fee from Rs 600 to Rs 6,000 for anybody who wanted to practice law from November 1 onwards.
A recent press release issued by Gujarat Congress, that also carried copy of an Intelligence Input regarding 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts, pointed at internal disputes between public prosecutors in one another serious case related to terrorism in Ahmedabad popularly known as Jehadi Shadyantra (Jehadi conspiracy). In the input,it was stated that one Mohammed Rauf from Hyderabad got acquitted from the case amid internal disputes between the public prosecutors in the case. And it was this Rauf Mohammed, the input added, who was conspiring to trigger blasts in Gujarat and other parts of the country. While the Intelligence Input was released by Gujarat Congress to belie Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modis claims on recent Patna blasts and to highlight alleged inaction of Gujarat Police on the input to prevent 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts, the public prosecutors seem to have become collateral damage!
