Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, the Governor’s official residence, has been renamed as Lok Bhavan. The announcement was made by Governor Acharya Devvrat in accordance with a directive by the Centre in this connection, said a statement issued on Monday. The decision represents a new direction of people’s awareness and an objective of making Lok Bhavan more people-friendly, transparent and devoted to people’s welfare, it said. Quoting Devvrat, the release said the basic element of Lok Bhavan is supremacy of people. The statement added that in recent years, the Raj Bhavan implemented several welfare efforts, such as a nationwide campaign on natural farming, strengthening of moral education in universities, dialogue with students and researchers, environment conservation, women’s empowerment and activities promoting tribal development.
