Gujarat: Child tied around waist, woman jumps to her death in Sabarmati river; booked for murder

Three weeks after a woman died by suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati with her two-year-old son tied to her waist in Ahmedabad, the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) Police has booked her for murder. The bodies of the mother and the child were retrieved by the River Rescue Team on January 15. The deceased woman was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 103, on the charge of murdering her son, on Saturday.

The FIR, filed by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Rinkal Mohan Desai, stated that a constable had received information from the police control room about the body of a woman floating in the Sabarmati river near the sports complex in Paldi.

After the River Rescue Team of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) retrieved the body, they discovered another body, that of the toddler, tied to her waist.

The police later found a mobile phone on Ghat number 11 near Sardar bridge through which they contacted the 24-year-old woman’s husband who arrived at the spot and identified the bodies.

Further investigation is underway in the case.
