The teacher and the student had gone missing on April 25 and were last seen in a CCTV footage at Surat Railway Station.
Gondal city police on Sunday registered a case of rioting as cars of a group of Patidar leader Alpesh Kathiriya were allegedly damaged by some locals. Kathiriya had come to Gondal to oppose statements made by local leader Ganesh Jadeja in a public meeting recently. Two of the accused named in the FIR have been arrested. Meanwhile, a counter complaint has also been lodged against the driver of a car from Kathiriya’s group.
Jadeja happens to be the son of sitting BJP MLA from Gondal constituency, Gitaba Jadeja.
Sources said that the development is a fallout of a recent war of words between Ganesh and some Patidar leaders over the situation of law and order in Gondal.
Ganesh had in a recent public meeting at Sultanpur village of Gondal made certain statements, following which Kathiriya and his supporters had announced that they would visit Gondal, in protest, on Sunday.
As Kathiriya and his supporters arrived in Gondal on Sunday, they allegedly faced the supporters of Ganesh. During this, some cars of Kathiriya’s men were allegedly attacked and damaged.
Following the incident, a police sub-inspector lodged a complaint of rioting and allied charges against Indrasinh Jadeja, Pintu Savaliya, Pushpraj Vala, Lakkirajsinh, Nilesh Chavda, and a mob of around 20 people — all supporters of Ganesh — as per official sources.
A senior police officer in Gondal confirmed that that two persons, who have been named as accused in the FIR, have been arrested and further investigation into the matter is under way.
The officer also said that one more complaint has been registered by one Pushpraj Vala, a supporter of Ganesh, against the driver of one of the cars of the group led by Kathiriya over alleged “attempt of culpable homicide”.
