A total of 18.75 lakh students will be appearing in Std X and XII examinations conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) that begins Tuesday.
Out of them, 10,81,316 students are appearing in Std X examinations and 7,93,684 in Std XII exams.
According to GSHSEB secretary R I Patel, a total of 1,38,312 students will be appearing for Std XII (science stream) and 5,14,279 for general stream. The rest will be appearing for commerce stream.
There are a total of 1,607 exam centres, with a total of 66,768 exam halls. Of the total exam halls, 61,868 will be equipped with CCTV cameras installed inside them to prevent copying.
The rest of 4,900 exam halls will have tablets and live pictures will be reaching GSEB headquarters in Gandhinagar which will be regularly monitored by the staff deputed for the purpose.
Patel claimed that Gujarat was the only state using electronic surveillance inside the exam halls to check copying during exams. He said that a total of 149 exam centres are sensitive from copying point and strict security arrangements had been made for these centres.
Patel said that a total of 144 prisoners, including 44 from Surat Central jail in Lajpore, would also be taking Std X and Std XII examinations.
The examination centres for them have been set up in central jails at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot. The student-prisoners have been brought brought to their respective exam centres in the four central jails.
Surat District Education Officer, U N Rathod said, “A total of 84,084 students are appearing in Std X exams, while 42,063 will appear in Std XII (Commerce Stream), and 13,137 will appear in Std XII (Science stream). 14,798 will appear in general stream.”
