The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad on Wednesday arrested a 21-year old Porbandar resident for allegedly passing on information pertaining to the Indian Coast Guard to purported agents from Pakistan through online messaging applications.

The accused, Jatin Charniya, involved in fishery activities, was purportedly in contact with a woman named ‘Advika Prince’ from Pakistan since January this year.

The two connected over Facebook following which Advika Prince befriended Charniya.

Charniya was allegedly providing information regarding the Coast Guard and its vessels through WhatsApp and Telegram in exchange for financial benefits, according to the ATS. He would often share details of jetties and ships at Porbandar and would also send videos of jetties and ships and Coast Guard vessels anchored at the jetty, said ATS. Charniya was allegedly paid Rs 6,000 in installments as deposits in his bank account by Advika Prince.

The probe has revealed that the WhatsApp account of Advika Prince that Charniya was corresponding over is being operated from Karachi in Pakistan. Charniya has been booked in an FIR lodged at the ATS police station under IPC sections 121A (conspiracy to wage war against the state) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The accused will be produced before a Porbandar court Thursday with the ATS seeking his custody for 14 days.
