The Gujarat University is planning to launch career-oriented twin degree programmes from the coming academic year.
Authorities concerned said the idea to facilitate students to do two degrees simultaneously has been floated because the existing era is knowledge-based,so the students be allowed to pursue as many courses as impossible within the shortest possible time. It would help them in acquiring more knowledge as well as brightening their future employment career, they said.
GU Vice-Chancellor Parimal Trivedi told reporters that a student doing any postgraduate course in the afternoon could also join law course in the morning, provided the timings of the two courses did not overlap.
He said the university had decided to allow students of MA,M Com and M Sc to pursue one-year career-oriented diploma courses from the B K School of Management (BKSM),holding classes three days a week. BKSM offers as many as 15 diploma programmes, each of one-year duration.
So,while completing his MA,a student can also study two diploma courses in two years, said Trivedi, adding that it would help students in getting better jobs and settle in life early.
