Govt orders CID probe in accidents involving death of Jain sadhus,sadhvis

Nearly a week after four Jain sadhvis died in a road accident in Mehsana district on November 9,the Gujarat government on Saturday asked the CID to investigate the cases of road accidents in which Jain sadhus or sadhvis have died in the last three years.

In a written order to the Additional Director General of Police,CID (Crime),V V Rabbari,the state Home Department has asked him to constitute a four-member team,comprising at least three IPS officers.

“I received the order on Saturday afternoon and have already begun shortlisting policemen for the investigating team,” Rabbari said,adding,“The team will start work soon.”

Four Jain sadhvis had died in a road accident near Soneri Patia village in Mehsana district on November 9. Five others walking with the deceased had escaped with injuries. Three days later,two more Jain sadhus were hit by a jeep in Barmer district in Rajasthan.
