Govt clamps a stock limit for edible oil

In view of the soaring prices of ground nut and other edible oils,the state government on Thursday imposed a limit on stocks of all types of edible oil and oil seeds for stockists with immediate effect.

In view of the soaring prices of ground nut and other edible oils,the state government on Thursday imposed a limit on stocks of all types of edible oil and oil seeds for stockists with immediate effect.

A 15-litre tin of groundnut oil now costs more than Rs 2,100,almost double compared to last year. As per the notification issued by the state civil supply department,any wholesale stockist in Gujarat is not allowed to keep more than 600 quintals or 4,000 tins (each of 15 litres) of edible oil. Retail stockists can keep not more than 45 quintals or 300 tins of edible oil. Traders and oil millers are not allowed to keep more than 2,000 kg of oilseeds,as per the notification.

Wholesale traders of oilseeds are allowed to stock 20 tonnes of oilseeds while retail traders can keep up to 10 tonnes in stock. Farmers are exempted from any such restriction.
