The Gujarat government admitted in the Assembly on Tuesday that the Asaram Ashram has encroached upon 67,099 square metres of land in Ahmedabad.
In a written reply to a question asked by Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar,the state Revenue Department said that much land has been encroached upon by the Asaram Ashram in Ahmedabad and that the Collectorate is dealing with the issue.
On a supplementary question on what action has been initiated against the Ashram to free the land from encroachment,the government said the Dascroi tehsildar had issued a notice on January 30,2009 under the Land Revenue Act.
On February 17,a hearing was held at the Collectorate where the deputy collector heard the matter,the government said.

It added that once the entire process under the Land Revenue Act is completed,further action will be taken on the matter.
