Four friends, who jumped in Sabarmati river, died while trying to save their two other friends near Kotarpur village in Sardarnagar area early on Friday. The four died while the duo, who were initially drowning, survived. The four — Parth Desai, Keyur Chaudhary, Ajay Parmar and Sandeep Sindha — were students of Class XII (Commerce) at Saraswati Vidyalaya of Naroda, where they lived.
Sardarnagar police said the friends had decided to bathe in the river after lunch. However, Prithviraj Jadeja and Vijay Desai started drowning within a few minutes. According to police, the four others Parth, Keyur, Ajay and Sandeep made a chain with their hands and extended help to the duo.
When they were trying to pull them out, the water’s tide sped up and the four boys fell into the water. An auto-rickshaw driver, who was passing by, saw the youth drowning and rushed to help. He rescued Prithviraj and Vijay who were closer to him. The other four, however, had reached the middle of the river and drowned in front of his friends and the auto driver. After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the grieving families.
