The Rajkot Zoological Park is receiving 43 animals and birds in exchange for a pair of Asiatic Lions as part of a trade-off with Lucknow Zoo. Asiatic Lions Hir,a six-year-old female,and Kuber,a male cub,reached the Lucknow Zoo Sunday last.
Rajkot Zoo superintendent R K Hirpara said the park still has 10 Asiatic Lions left,including five cubs.
Hirpara said the zoo expects to receive three critically endangered Gharial Crocodiles (one male and two females),four Hyenas (two of each gender),a pair of Palm Civet Cats (one of each gender),four pheasants each from four different pheasant species,and 20 Cockatiels as part of the exchange.
7 killed in three road mishaps across state
Ahmedabad: Six people were killed in two separate road accidents in north Gujarat region while one person was in a third road accident in Ahmedabad district on Tuesday.
Four persons,including a woman and a female child,were killed in the accident in Banaskantha district,while two others were killed in a mishap in Patan district,police said.
In Ahmedabad district,one person was burnt to death while four others,including two women and a three-year-old boy,sustained burn injuries after a min-truck carrying LPG cylinders overturned and caught fire near Rohita village after the driver lost control due to speed.
They were all travelling in the truck laden with cylinders.
