The District Supply Department of Surat busted a PDS food grain racket at a godown at Nawagam Dindoli in the city on Friday. The godown manager A U Joshi was allegedly found stealing and selling the food grains to local flour mill owners.
A team of officials from the supply department conducted a surprise inspection at the godown on Friday evening.
The officials also stopped a truck carrying the food grains and weighed each of the sacks and found out that an average of 3 kg of grains were missing in each bag. Upon questioning Joshi,it was found that Joshi reportedly removed 3kg of grain from the sacks he received and sold it to flour mill owners at a profit.
The inspection team have removed Joshi as manager of the godown and a police inquiry has been initiated against him.
