The BJP has been experiencing political upheavals in Junagadh prior to the Lok Sabha polls. Five councillors including the former deputy mayor of Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC),Satish Ahir, resigned from the party and joined the Congress on Sunday. The other four councillors are Lakha Parmar,Gitaben Solanki,Vijay Vora and Rekhaben Parmar. Besides, two elected members of the BJP-ruled Junagadh district panchayat also quit the party and joined the Congress on Sunday. They are Rudiben Akhed and Dhuliben Zala. After joining the Congress,Ahir said: The councillors were unhappy with the BJP. The party only works for the benefit of the rich. There is no inner democracy in the BJP. Leaders and party workers are repeatedly humiliated. On Monday,Ahir and the four others also resigned from the post of councillors in the JMC.
Elsewhere,Junagadh city BJP president Karsan Dahduk has termed the five councillors as opportunists. He said: It happens during the elections. We are happy that our party has become clean.
