A total of 96 marijuana plants have been recovered.
Identified as Ravi Musarka (25), Viren Mahadi (30), and Ritika Prasad (21), the three accused were arrested on Sunday for illegal cultivation of marijuana in their two rented flats in an upscale area of the city. They were sent to police remand till September 8 by a magistrate court on Tuesday. All three accused hail from Ranchi in Jharkhand.
“Ravi’s brother Ujjwal is a textile engineer with knowledge of urban agriculture. During the pandemic, he carried out experiments related to such cultivation. The accused preferred Gujarat due to its uninterrupted supply of electricity and water. They thought they would evade suspicion in an upscale neighbourhood,” Vikram Chavda, police inspector, Sarkhej Police Station, told The Indian Express.

Police said the accused paid Rs. 35,000 as rent for the flats in Orchid Harmony and Applewoods township in Shantipura, spent their time setting up automatic systems for photosynthesis, and developed appropriate conditions for growing the plants.
