The recent broad daylight firing on a city trader has turned out to be a case of love and greed after detection. The city police arrested the main accused,a jeweller, who had given a contract of over Rs one crore to kill the trader to marry his wife, whom he had been dating, and snatch his property.

The squad of Zone I,DCP Virendra Yadav, arrested the accused Dharmesh Jitu Shah,a jeweller, who had allegedly given a contract of Rs 1.25 crore to three men, identified as Lalji alias Lalol,Vijay and Raju, from Junagadh district to kill the trader,Chintan Shah. Dharmesh, who had been allegedly having an affair with Chintan’s wife,is also her brother-in-law’s brother.

The incident happened on September 27 near Chintan’s residence at Vrindavan apartments in Usmanpura area of the city. He is under treatment at a private hospital at present.

The Naranpura police that is probing the case had collected statements of Chintan and his wife Janki. However, there was no headway in the case. Dharmesh’s name cropped up in the Call Data Record (CDR) of Janki. DCP Virendra Yadav said,“Dharmesh, who is also married, and Janki were having an affair for the last four years. Dharmesh was found talking to the three men a month before the incident soon after his conversations with Janki. Dharmesh had hatched the plan to eliminate Chintan, marry his wife Janki and transfer the property on his name.”

The police found names of contract killers in the CDR. The investigation showed that Dharmesh had given Rs 65 lakhs to Lalo, who brought the other two to kill Chintan. As per their plan,Dharmesh had gathered information that on the day of incident Chintan was going to work after lunch.

He and his men reached near his residence and Vijay walked towards Chintan. Before Chintan could react,Vijay shot at his stomach. The duo fled from the spot on a motorbike. DCP Yadav added,“Vijay shot at Chintan while Dharmesh was present there at a distance. We had recovered the .38 calibre bullet used in the incident. However, the money given to shooters is yet to be recovered. We have also got the CDRs of the trio who would be arrested in the case now.”
