Most parts of the state except Kutch and Banaskantha district received rains and thunderstorms in the early hours of Wednesday. The rains continued throughout the day,signalling the onset of monsoon.
According to the Meteorological Department,rains and thunderstorms would continue for the next two days. It also issued warnings for those operating in ports and for fishermen to not venture into the sea till noon on Thursday as winds of speeds up to 55 km per hour (kph) are expected to hit the coasts.
With the arrival of monsoon,farmers across the state are reported to have begun plowing their fields for the season.
Areas such as Padra,Vadodara,Karjan and Savli (in Vadodara district) and Dholka (in Ahmedabad district) and some places in Saurashtra region received 70 mm of rainfall.
