Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, whose last visit to Gujarat scheduled on February 27, was cancelled due to “security reasons”, is now expected to visit on March 19.
He will be in Gandhinagar at the invitation of Congress Legislature Party leader Shankersinh Vaghela to inaugurate a college building under the aegis of his trust-run Bapu Gujarat Knowledge Village.
Last time, Singh’s visit, apart from coinciding with the anniversary of the Sabarmati express train burning at Godhra, of 2002, had also coincided with the Gujarat BJP’s felicitation of its national president Amit Shah on his second term which was also held in Gandhinagar.
Vaghela had then called the cancellation of the visit, a “political conspiracy” to prevent the former PM from coming to Gujarat.
On Wednesday, Vaghela, confirmed the arrival of the former prime minister and said, “he will be here at 2.30 pm and leave at 7 pm”. Singh is also expected to interact with students, teachers and academicians.
